🚁 Position Overview
Are you passionate about combining geospatial skills with hands-on restoration work on the ground? Thryve.Earth is seeking a GIS & NbS Specialist for our ARR project in Sulawesi.
In this role you will own the GIS-related sections of project documentation, contribute to baseline measurements, MRV and eligibility checks, and lead on-ground implementation and tracking of planting with local implementation partners and farmer communities. The role also offers an opportunity to grow into carbon modelling and broader NbS functions.
📝 Responsibilities
- GIS & Project Development: Own GIS-related sections of project documentation/PDDs. Conduct spatial analysis and mapping for project boundaries, land tenure and eligibility, and support baseline measurements, MRV and project eligibility assessments.
- Field Implementation & Monitoring: Lead GIS-supported tracking of planting and project implementation, working with local implementation partners and farmer communities.
- Forest Inventory & Evidence: Support forest inventory, sample plots and field evidence collection, and ensure field data and evidence are organised for project monitoring and audits.
- Geospatial & Data Workflows: Develop and automate geospatial workflows using Python/R. Work with QGIS, Google Earth Engine, satellite and drone data, manage spatial datasets using SQL/Postgres/PostGIS, and apply classification, regression and other spatial analysis methods.
- Project Collaboration: Support field teams and local partners with GIS/data requirements, and contribute to broader NbS, MRV and carbon-related work as the project develops.
🎓 Qualifications and Skills
- Genuine passion for nature and interest in NbS/carbon projects, with willingness to learn carbon modelling and MRV.
- 4+ years of experience in GIS, remote sensing or a related field.
- Degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Forestry, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Strong Python/R and geospatial analysis skills, with experience in QGIS, Google Earth Engine, and satellite and/or drone data.
- Experience with SQL, Postgres/PostGIS.
